Reading, Explained

Note: There are no technical scoring systems in place, just good ol' go where my heart is type of thing but here's a quick guideline. These are for book reviews posted from January 20, 2023.

Star Rating

|  I can't believe I just wasted my time, money and energy on this.

☆☆ | It was kinda terrible, but there were flickers of good stuff. This is a pity rating.

☆☆☆ | It was great, but nothing special.

☆☆☆☆ | Obviously, it was awesome. I didn't struggle with this at all. It was almost perfect, but there were just teeny tiny misses.

☆☆☆☆☆ | Nothing's perfect but almost everything about this book is.

"Appropriateness"

...but read whatever you want at your own risk anyway.

Adults - Almost everything is appropriate for you at this age bracket, good on you.

Young Adults and Adults - Adults will enjoy this, as well as the younger adults but proceed with caution because they might contain adult themes that may be misunderstood by the ones who haven't had the talk yet.

Young Adults - The book is specifically targeted for young adults. As an adult (or someone who tries to be one), the theme was a little too young for my taste.

Kids, Young Adults and Adults - GP books

Kids - Great for your kiddos, might be boring for you.

Newbie-Friendly

Yes - They're fun and interesting books that will motivate you enough to keep going.

Not really - Not a very difficult book but my experience was not "smooth" enough to recommend to new readers.

No - May not be for you now, but once you pick up on a good reading habit, you can go back and read this book when you have built tolerance.

Fast Read?

Yes - Reading this felt like talking to a friend or listening to someone tell a story. It was almost a breeze and I didn't struggle with the choice of words and writing style. This could also be for books that are too interesting that it's difficult to stop reading it. As I was born in the modern age, I read modern books faster (especially if they're written well).

Not really - Not a very fast read in my case. There were "glitches" in the reading experience due to writing style, irrelevance of situation or characters, etc.

No - This book was a mountain to climb. It was extremely difficult, but it does not mean that it's a terrible book. My limits have just been hit. Hello, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
