Batchoy for Only 45 Pesos?! | Braddex Takeaway Review

Wednesday, February 14, 2024

The chilly weather lately has a stronger call for soup so when I saw Braddex Batchoy & Steamed Rice a.k.a. Braddex, curiousity got the best of me and I checked out what food options have. Other than their batchoy, I also ordered their steamed rice, spring rolls and bacon rolls.

Braddex Batchoy & Steamed Rice has multiple branches located across Cebu City, Mandaue City and in Lapu Lapu. I ordered from their Tisa branch through Foodpanda.

For full disclosure, I am not a person who minds paying a bit more for quality food if I really want it AND if I can afford it. I also do not compare a budget-friendly food unfairly to other higher priced options. If it surpasses the more expensive options, that would be really great as well. Ergo, as much of a snob as I am, I also have realistic expectations.

Now, let's get to the food.

Steamed Rice

Their steamed rice tastes like how it would if one is to make it at home which ended up being the main reason that I enjoyed the taste of it. It's not comparable to another famous dimsum brand but it's good on its own accord.

The base is just regular cooked white rice. It's not by any means phenomenal in taste and the sauce does lose its color turning very pale once it is mixed with the rice. It's still very filling and has a good amount of protein mixed in.

Steamed Rice Rating: ★★★☆☆

Bacon Rolls

Let's cut to the chase - I don't like this. I'm the kind of person who finds joy in less salty food, but this was just way more than bland. It lacked so much seasoning that it almost tasted raw (not that I have any idea of what raw meat tastes like). I also did not like the texture of it.

Bacon Rolls Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

I normally do not mind the packaging for takeaway orders unless it's necessary or it's outstanding. Just in case it matters to you, the bacon rolls and spring rolls are just placed in plastic bags separately.

Spring Rolls

For its price, this was a lot meatier than expected and it's also decently sized at approximately 3 inches in length. The meat was well seasoned and very flavourful. The wrapper is the saltier kind so that might be worth noting if that's not your preference. I personally do not mind that.

This was actually my favourite in this order.

Spring Rolls Rating: ★★★

Batchoy

Batchoy, Php 45

Today's star of the show. How does a Php 45 batchoy taste like?

First of all, this has a good serving of meat, chicharon (skin only), noodles and a quarter of a hard boiled egg. For Php45, this could be enough as a snack but I doubt it would be filling enough for a main meal if you really like rice.

As for its taste, this is bland. I've had batchoy at this price range before and they were pretty tasty. For this, the meat did not taste like anything at all. Furthermore, the soup had a hint of taste but I could not figure out what it was.

Batchoy Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

In conclusion...

For the low price, I think one can still get a good filling meal. The order was quick and it arrived warm. I really liked the steamed rice and the lumpia. The other two were just too bland and that is saying a lot because I prefer less salty dishes.

I don't think I'll be ordering again but by all means, if you like the place please continue to enjoy what they have to offer or try it out if you haven't done so already.

'Til next time!
