Is This Affordable Coffee Shop Worth It? | Daily by Bo's Coffee Takeaway Review
Saturday, November 18, 2023
Over the past few months, I have seen a very obvious rise in popularity of affordable coffee going for as low as Php 29. Coffee, like most commodities, (though not always) seems to be better at a higher price range. I don't mind instant coffee - heck, I have the most basic black instant coffee daily. However, I've just had the worst coffee experiences with the cheap shops that I already have my own prejudice and I'd rather have my stick instant coffee.
I was surprised when I saw the popular Filipino coffee chain having its own affordable version on Foodpanda. Due to my prejudice, I was a bit hesitant to try it out for the fear that it might ruin the entire chain for me...but as you can see, I did bite the bullet and here's what I think.
Packaging
I don't have any expectation with takeaway packaging because it's really mediocre for most restaurants but I will give credit where credit is due. For it's price, it is great that they have a high quality bag and even the drink and food inside it where packed as how it would with its more expensive competition.
Price
Affordability is subjective. In this and all of my posts, when I say something is affordable that is subject to the price range that I am used to in those categories. In this case I also considered its affordability in comparison to both higher-priced coffee shops and other cheaper alternatives.
That being said, I think this is quite affordable especially when there's a discount. I have placed the discounted price that I got them for as well as the regular price at the time of this writing.
The Food
Mexican Crunch
I've had a number of Middle Eastern dishes in the past, but this was the only one with the smell that took me right back to a food truck in Temple University that I unfortunately forgot the name of. That truck still to this day has the best chicken tikka masala.
Anyway, I was so excited to try this out because I really loved the smell of it.
Php 85 with discount | Php 120 regular price |
The taste is not too bad and the filling is quite generous and its size is a little larger than my palm. The only problem I had with this is that I found it to be a little bland in taste. I think the oily taste (if that's even a thing) did a lot to kill the flavour. With a smell that strong, I had higher expectations.

Coffee Bar
Php 42 with discount | Php 60 regular price |
I love a lot of Bo's Coffee pastries so I was very much looking forward to this coffee bar. This came cold and it was dry and very crumbly. Maybe it was my fault for expecting it to be chewy.
I ended up heating it up in the microwave on high for eight seconds because I usually like brownies and pastry bars a little warm. That did very little to improve its texture. As for the taste, it's very bland. For a coffee bar, I did not get a hint of coffee. This does have chunks of chocolate that's too hard for my liking.
Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza
Php 59.50 with discount | Php 85 regular price |
That may not be the most appetising-looking photo you'll see in this post today, but this is actually really tasty. There's just the right blend of cheese and sauce. However, neither of those have taste that stand out. Nothing too special about it. As for the sausage and pepperoni, there's quite a lot of it and the meat does not taste cheap at all.
I am so sorry I ate half of it before I remembered to measure its diameter but my estimate is around 4 inches.
For its regular price of Php 85, you do get a lot for your buck.
Iced Black
Php 70 for large with discount | Php 100 for large regular price |
I am not sure if this is a cold brew drink since it's not specified in the description, but if it's not, this is a pretty strong coffee. The very diluted Iced Americano does not even come close to this one. This might not be for the faint of heart.
I enjoyed this drink so much because it has the true tasty kind of bitter you'd expect from a black coffee without cream nor sugar. It's very thick and rich and even though the ice kind of melted towards the end, it didn't dilute the drink much like most cold brews. At this price point, the quality of coffee already makes this worth it even at regular price. This is very similar to the Dunkin Donuts plain iced black coffee (which I also really love).
Bacon and Egg Sandwich
Php 84 with discount | Php 120 regular price |
I saved the best for last because at this price point, this is the best Bacon and Egg that I've had in the city yet! It beats even those of popular fast food restaurants and other coffee shops.
In this sandwich, we got ourselves a very generous serving of bacon and egg. I hope they will never ever skimp on this. The bacon is not the cheap overly sweet kind. It's slightly smoky and just the right bit of saltiness.
It does not have any other condiment though so if you might find this a little dry or you're just really big into extra sauce, you might whip out the mayo and ketchup you have at home. For me, I really like it as it is and I highly recommend this.

In conclusion...
I really loved this restaurant and I ended up liking almost all of the food that I ordered. The two that stood out where the Iced Black coffee and the Bacon and Egg Sandwich. Those are the ones that I see myself ordering again in the future.
