 Glifesnaps Shanks Paseo Arcenas

Hey, hey there's a new-ish kid in town!

Shanks has been open for a couple months now but we only got to try it recently. It was near our place so we decided it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Glifesnaps Shanks Paseo Arcenas Osso Buco

Shanks Osso Buco

I saw this a couple times on Tiktok and I thought it looked delicious. I had no idea what an Osso Buco was and my first impression was it tasted like an ultra fancy kaldereta. I don't think that's a good comparison but that was the first thought that came to mind. What I liked about this was that the beef was ultra tender and the sauce was very tasty. However, I was sated halfway through and the rest of it I just felt fed up (or umay/sum-ol). It was great, but I don't think I'll want to have this again.

I'm used to the very buttery scallops appetiser so I went into this dish having that unreasonable expectation which is why on the first scallop, I found it really bland. It was only when I got rid of the "buttery" expectation that I really came to appreciate this light, but tasty appetiser. I won't suggest to take this like a viand though because it's not savoury enough to go with a carb or something else - if you want to appreciate it the best, have this on its own.

One of the things that drew us to this place was the fact that since they are Acacia Steakhouse's sister brand, they were able to bring some of Acacia's most popular dishes in the restaurant. We tried Acacia before and we did love their steaks.

However, this was a huge letdown. My fiance ordered medium rare and this was almost rare (see photo below). I don't recall Acacia's steak to be like this. I tasted it and as much as I can recall, it did not taste anything like the original one from Acacia. We didn't think it was worth complaining so my fiance just graciously finished the dish. It was sad because we loved this before.

In conclusion...

The experience at Shanks was not bad at all - we did finish our food with very little regrets. The service could use some improvement in terms of how happy they looked. I know we all have bad days, but I have worked for the service industry in the past and we were always taught to put service before our own struggles - it's just how it is because it's what we're paid to do. Hard pill to swallow, but that's a fact.

Anyway, we do retain our love for Acacia Steakhouse - I think they have good value steaks but I don't think we'll be coming back to Shanks. I say this with a heavy heart.
