How much of a person does luxury truly embody?

In the current times when what used to be luxury brands have become more of fast fashion rather than an exclusive clique not everyone can get on, luxury now has a redefined meaning.

However, for these two women it goes beyond the perception of society - it's a complex operation and a dangerous playing field.

The Story

Ava is your typical good Asian daughter. She has a law degree, a great husband and a loving family. Winnie, on the other hand, is not so fortunate and has taken the direction of luck into her own hands.

After almost a decade of no contact, Ava met Winnie again when her life was in a turmoil. Winnie was no longer the dependent roommate that she had. This time, Ava found herself actually depending on Winnie to calm her wailing child and to regain the self worth that she seemed to have lost.

Winnie presented Ava with an offer that she initially found disgusting, but also could not help but get drawn into. Winnie has this "business operation" where she purchases authentic luxury handbags, sells the authentic ones on Ebay and returns a supercopy to the store. At first, Ava was scared and hesitant but it slowly became more like a second nature.

Ava started gaining control of her life again...but at what cost?

What I Think...

This is one of the books that is entertaining but in a really odd way. It keeps you going but it also feels like you're getting nowhere.

The first or most part of this book is Ava retelling everything about the operation to an unknown detective and another part is the truth from Winnie's perspective. You know how there are three sides to a story? Yours, mine and the truth? This is sort of like that. It's Ava's, Winnie's and the truth. I found that Ava's side was bearable and Winnie's was more of a retelling of whatever Ava has told so it started to become boring/annoying by then. Then there's the truth that I don't think I will ever know. I was lead to believe that Ava's side was the truth, but when I read Winnie's part all my faith for Ava went down the drain and by the end of the book I ended up not believing any of it at all.

I felt like this could have been a great short story because as a novel, it was so unneccessarily long winded.

The only thing that kept me going was my curiosity on whether or not they get caught, who gets punished or how it ends...and even those were less than stellar.
