My Studio Apartment Cleaning Routine

Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Cleaning is a chore that I just took very seriously a few months ago and since then, it has just become a high priority.

I am fortunate enough to be working from home because traffic and getting myself ready don't take too much time. I also live alone and I really couldn't be bothered to be going out anymore for now so I have quite some time at hand.

It's also fairly easy to clean up my space because it's only a little under 30 sqm and it's a studio apartment.

Daily

  • After having my coffee in the morning, I take whatever I used for my breakfast to the sink. I let it soak while I do other things.
  • If I have been drying out dishes the night before, I put them away in the drawers.
  • I then proceed to cleaning the floors using the good ol' broom and a floor wiper I got from Daiso. I use a diluted version of the Lysol  Disinfectant solution in a refillable spray bottle to disinfect the floor and other surfaces. It is very important for me that I regularly disinfect the floor area in my space.
  • I also wash my dishes after every meal to avoid flies. But there are times when I get too lazy and only do the dishes after dinner.
  • After taking out the trash, I disinfect my bins before placing new bags on them.

Weekly

  • On Saturdays, I do all my daily routine plus a few more deep cleaning on other areas.
  • Since there's not much dust in my space, I only have to clean my windows once a week and just to avoid it getting all smudgy and ugly, I use a glass cleaner. I also use this on my mirrors and my fridge.
  • Shower and toilet cleaning is a far more intricate work of art that deserves its own post but just to quickly go through it - I first take all my toiletries out including the towels. This is why I don't like cluttering this room. I then soak the toilet bowl in a disinfecting toilet cleaner. After at least half an hour, I wash that off with powdered laundry detergent also using a regular toilet bowl brush. I then use my regular cream cleanser for the other parts of the toilet and the entire shower and toilet area. Yes, I clean every tiled part of the room.
  • I usually polish the sink once a week or whenever it is needed.
  • As I have mentioned, this place does not really get dusty so I only have to clean the surfaces like tables, lamps, cabinet tops once a week and I do disinfect them.

Having a clean space because I literally spend 24 hours of my day here and I also hate having to clean filth so I try to keep my place as much as possible.

I understand we all have different lifestyles and priorities so I may only be able to do all this because the lifestyle I chose has given me the time and energy for it. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this will change as my life also will.
