Practical Ways to Go Through Airport Security Faster

During security checks, there will always be people who seemingly have everything in their pockets and take forever to get through it. I was one of those people far too many times. A lot of the instances, I'm just too careless and I ended up regretting especially when I just want to get over that step and head to the gates.

If you want to get through the security check faster, then this might be help you out. Here are some practical ways to prepare yourself for airport security checks.

Empty your pockets

Place everything you have in your pockets inside one of your carry-ons. You are not allowed to go through the screening device if you have anything in your pockets. I have made the mistake of not emptying my pockets a lot and it's so much of a hassle having to take them out and putting them back in after.

Pack your liquids properly

The general rule is to pack your liquids, gels or aerosols in 100mL or less containers and all those containers should be in quart-sized bags ideally clear bags. Having a 100mL liquid in a 300mL container is not acceptable.

Make sure this clear bag of liquids is in an accessible area of your carry-on because you might need to take these out at some airports.

Dress practically

How you dress for an airport is entirely up to you. Personally, I would always choose comfort over style. However, if you want less or no hassle during security checks, I would suggest you :

  • skip the belt
  • avoid any metals in your clothing including your shoes
  • not wear jewelry that takes extra steps to take off - or skip the jewelry altogether
  • not wear shoes that take too long to take off

Keep your laptop accessible

Pack your laptop in an area or compartment of your carry-on bag that you can easily access. You will have to take laptops out at almost all airports so it is important that it is in an accessible and preferrably in a compartment where it doesn't have too many roommates.

Keep your hands free

Keep your hands free of loose items such as wallets, phones, boarding passes, passports, documents, food, etc. Place all these in your carry-on so you won't have to take too many trays when going through security.

Be mindful of restrictions

You can check what items are restricted for carry-on in your airlines' website or in the airport's website. Never ever bring items that are restricted for carry-on. A few examples might be sharp objects, flammable liquids, etc. This varies from airport to airport so it's always best to check. You would not want extra security checks, would you?

Preparing yourself for a smoother security check is not only doing yourself a favour but would also do a lot for those who are after you in the line.

Having less stress during your journey gives you a lot more room for excitement for your destination.
