Last weekend, we decided to have a special steak date at one of the known local steakhouses in Cebu City. I have heard a lot in the past about how good the place is from friends but I never really felt drawn there. But that is a good thing though because I get to dine there for the first time with two of the most special ones in my life.

It is worth mentioning that yes, they allow pets to dine with you in the restaurant. I tried to reserve a table online via their Facebook page but they did not respond so we just decided to just walk-in since we were planning to come during lunchtime.

We arrived at around 11:15 am and only one table was occupied. By 12:00 pm, people started coming.

Here is their menu:

We got the Steak & Marrow with a side of rice and the Black Pepper steak with a side of mashed potatoes. They're reasonably priced compared to a lot of steakhouses in Cebu and the steaks are definitely delicious.

As for the ambiance, we sat near their mini kitchen and although it's generally a good place, we found ourselves getting some smoke action because they were grilling outdoors and we did end up smelling a little bit like steak after - which isn't too bad unless you're going out after.

The service wasn't exceptional but it's already very good. The staff were friendly and they made sure our orders come on time.

We really like the place and we see ourselves going back the next time we crave for some steak or if an occasion calls for it.

Would it be something we recommend? Absolutely.

Unfortunate experience of backing a Kickstarter for the first time

A little over a year ago, a photographer I looked up to the most announced that he was releasing a set of travel bags designed for photographers and travellers alike. Time and time again I find a bag that I desire so much but I have never wanted any bag more than I wanted this one.

So we decided it was a great investment and since the bag was promised to be delivered four months after the Kickstarter campaign ended, we thought it would be worth all the wait and would be in perfect timing with my trip to Canada.

If you're not familiar, Kickstarter is a website where you can fund a project to reach a financial goal. Backers (a.k.a. the funders) have the chance to receive a reward which is usually the project/product they are funding when the goal is reached. This reward is based on the donation "package" that the backer chooses. In my case, it was the complete set of the bags.

Being mindful that we were still in the midst of a global pandemic, I didn't really have much expectation on delivery time - also because I just really wanted the bag that I was willing to wait for it and any short delay was acceptable.

Oh boy, was the delay just went on forever.

I actually waited my hearts out but when the circumstances were just not lining up to the delivery times anymore, we decided to just back out of the campaign. The fact that there was also a big lack of communication of how things were going behind the scenes were not helping at all.

I work in marketing and I know it's really impossible to not get even just a brief update out.

We contacted customer services and spent weeks chasing them up before we finally got our refund. Believe me when I say I was just as devastated to realise that I will never get my hands on the bags but backing out was just something needed to be done or we'll be throwing hundreds of dollars down the drain.

To say that was not a very good experience would be an understatement. Imagine wanting something so bad that you have never wanted that much in life and to wait for a long time just for you to realise it will never happen.

Because of this experience, I don't think I'll ever back anything again or maybe it will take me a few more years to forget about the emotional trauma this has caused.

Practical Ways to Go Through Airport Security Faster

Tuesday, March 22, 2022

During security checks, there will always be people who seemingly have everything in their pockets and take forever to get through it. I was one of those people far too many times. A lot of the instances, I'm just too careless and I ended up regretting especially when I just want to get over that step and head to the gates.

If you want to get through the security check faster, then this might be help you out. Here are some practical ways to prepare yourself for airport security checks.

Empty your pockets

Place everything you have in your pockets inside one of your carry-ons. You are not allowed to go through the screening device if you have anything in your pockets. I have made the mistake of not emptying my pockets a lot and it's so much of a hassle having to take them out and putting them back in after.

Pack your liquids properly

The general rule is to pack your liquids, gels or aerosols in 100mL or less containers and all those containers should be in quart-sized bags ideally clear bags. Having a 100mL liquid in a 300mL container is not acceptable.

Make sure this clear bag of liquids is in an accessible area of your carry-on because you might need to take these out at some airports.

Dress practically

How you dress for an airport is entirely up to you. Personally, I would always choose comfort over style. However, if you want less or no hassle during security checks, I would suggest you :

  • skip the belt
  • avoid any metals in your clothing including your shoes
  • not wear jewelry that takes extra steps to take off - or skip the jewelry altogether
  • not wear shoes that take too long to take off

Keep your laptop accessible

Pack your laptop in an area or compartment of your carry-on bag that you can easily access. You will have to take laptops out at almost all airports so it is important that it is in an accessible and preferrably in a compartment where it doesn't have too many roommates.

Keep your hands free

Keep your hands free of loose items such as wallets, phones, boarding passes, passports, documents, food, etc. Place all these in your carry-on so you won't have to take too many trays when going through security.

Be mindful of restrictions

You can check what items are restricted for carry-on in your airlines' website or in the airport's website. Never ever bring items that are restricted for carry-on. A few examples might be sharp objects, flammable liquids, etc. This varies from airport to airport so it's always best to check. You would not want extra security checks, would you?

Preparing yourself for a smoother security check is not only doing yourself a favour but would also do a lot for those who are after you in the line.

Having less stress during your journey gives you a lot more room for excitement for your destination.

Beginner's Guide to Typical Airport Procedures: International Travels

Thursday, March 17, 2022

Welcome, welcome to the second part of this two-part series of beginner's guide to typical procedures at the airport.

As I have written on the previous post, the aim of this is to give you a general idea of what you have to do at an aiport because the biggest part of all the fear of first time travel is really the fear of the unknown. So I am hoping that by giving you this general idea, you'll be less anxious when you are travelling.

International travel is quite similar to domestic procedures with a couple little additions that you have to know.

Departure

1. Check-in

It is advisable to arrive at the airport not less than three hours earlier than your flight. This is because of the extra steps with international travel.

Check-in is almost the same as checking in for a domestic flight. For international travels, you are most likely required to present a valid passport with an expiry date of greater than six months. Your airline might also check the documents required by your destination country.

It is also very important to ask where you would claim your bags when you are checking in.

If you have a transit flight, you may or may not receive boarding passes for all your flight. If you receive all boarding passes, then you're good to go. However, if you have only one boarding pass, you will have to ask for the boarding pass of your next flight at the check-in counter of your transit country/city.

2. Immigration

Everyone has a different experience each time going through immigration. There is really nothing to be worried about as long as you are honest with your travel and you have all the necessary documents like your visa, identification, return flight and hotel or tour bookings at your destination country (if the destination country is not your home country).

It is also worth noting that in some countries, there wouldn't be any need for immigration clearance if you are departing the country.

3. Security Check

Just like domestic flights, pack your liquids in 100mL or less containers and pack them all in a quart-sized clear bag. You might be required to take this bag out when going through security. Check for signs at the security area for items that you need to take out and place on a separate bin.

You will also have to place your laptop in a separate tray and other gadgets of the same size and larger.

4. Boarding Gate

Check your boarding pass for your boarding gate and pay attention to announcements for any gate changes. Be at your boarding gate minutes before your boarding time.

5. Boarding

Be sure you listen to boarding protocol announcement that the ground crew makes before boarding. You can find your batch number or letter on your boarding pass. You may choose to board later but you cannot board earlier than your batch number. But I wouldn't suggest boarding later because some people just hoard the space in the overhead bins of the plane.

Arrival

1. Immigration

After deplaning, follow the arrows that lead to Immigration. If you have a domestic transit flight, you have to go through the immigration of the first airport you land in the destination country. For example, your final destination is Bohol but your first flight lands in Manila - then you have to go through immigration in Manila.

The immigration officer might ask questions like how long you're staying in the country, your return ticket, your bookings, etc. They might also ask if you are bringing any type of food to the country. It is always best to declare. You also have to give the arrival card/form that is given out during the flight for you to fill out.

2. Baggage Claim

After going through immigration, you have to follow the arrows that lead to Baggage Claim. Your flight attendant will announce the carousel number before you deplane. If they do not, then you can check your flight number on the monitors at the carousels.

3. Customs

This is simple. All you have to do is to give them the Customs Declaration Form that the flight attendant gives out during the flight. If there are no taxes for you to pay, then you're good to go. This is why it is so important to pack correctly.

I hope this covers the important steps that a beginner might need to know when travelling. If there's anything you'd like to add, feel free to comment down below.

Happy travels!

Beginner's Guide to Typical Airport Procedures: Domestic Travels

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

Travelling is probably one of the scariest thing especially if it's your first time - more especially if it's your first time alone. Going through airports can be very intimidating but once you have a general idea of what you have to do there, it will hopefully lighten up your load.

While airports may have their differences, I found in my years of travel that the procedures are generally the same for a lot of them.

Domestic flights are relatively easier compared to international flights so let's get this out of the way first. There's only four major things you might go through when taking domestic flights.

Departures

1. Check-in

For local flights, you'll only need to be around two hours earlier than your scheduled departure. There's no need to rush because the longest queue you might be in would be the check-in counters.

Make sure you know the exact terminal your check-in counter is. You can find this in your travel itinerary or your "ticket". Present a copy of your government-issued ID to the counter. They rarely ever ask for a printed copy of your itinerary but it wouldn't hurt if you present one as well.

Get your boarding pass where you can find information on what boarding gate number you will be boarding and your boarding batch number. If you are checking in your luggage, you can find a sticker tag at the back of your boarding pass.

2. Security Check

I will be uploading a separate and more detailed post about security checks but the main thing to remember is to pack your liquids in 100mL or less containers and pack them in clear quart-sized bag. You might have to take this bag out when going through security.

You also have to take out laptops and gadgets larger than laptops and place them on a separate tray.

Avoid wearing heavy metal on your clothing.

3. Boarding Gate

As mentioned, this information is in your boarding pass. You can explore the airport and have a meal but be sure you are at your boarding gate a few minutes before your boarding time. This information is in your boarding pass as well.

Be mindful of the announcements. Your boarding gate may be changed at times. I would not advice having music on full blast on your earphones when you're at the airport.

4. Boarding

Your boarding batch is on your boarding pass. The ground crew will announce the boarding procedures before boarding.

Keep your seat number in mind and upon entering the aircraft, your flight attendant will let you know which side of the plane your seat is on.

Arrival

Arriving is pretty simple. If you do not have any domestic transfers, just follow the arrows that says baggage claim. The carousel number where your bags will be claimed will be announced before you deplane so pay attention especially if you have checked in bags.

If you have a domestic transfer, follow the arrow that says domestic transfers or transfer desk. You can always ask the security personnel in the airport if you're confused.

If you have an international transfer, follow the arrow that says international transfers. If you are travelling through an airport like NAIA where the terminals are very far from each other, you might need to take the bus. You can ask the transfer desk for assistance.

On my next blog...

Fo the next part of this two-part post,  I'll go through the typical processes for international travel. Stay tuned!

Glifesnaps chef panyang pet friendly resort bantayan island

Just a couple weeks ago, we had a quick trip to the island to run some errands. We decided to stay the night just to relax and have some fresh seafood.

We had our dog with us so we really had to look for a pet-friendly accommodation and surprisingly it was not very easy. There's only a handful of resorts who would take pets in.

Glifesnaps chef panyang pet friendly resort bantayan island

I was not able to take photos of the room we stayed in because we just rushed when we arrived. You may visit their Facebook page for the photos.

Their room rates are:

  • Good for 2 - Php 1800
  • Good for 4 - Php 2800
  • Good for 10- Php 5000
  • Extra person - Php 500

You are also required to pay a 50% downpayment and you can do this via Gcash, kwarta padala or bank transfer.

The rooms are airconditioned and for its price, they're really so much better than a lot of resorts in the area. The location is also part of a wonderful beach strip where you can witness the sunset.

The resort is near the "food centre" like MJ Square but the menu from their Chef Panyang restaurant is also available to order and can be delivered to your room. There are tables near the seaside where you can have your meals.

Glifesnaps chef panyang pet friendly resort bantayan island

The best thing about the resort is their staff. They just have some of the friendliest and helpful staff we've ever experienced. They're always very warm and welcoming and we give them so much kudos.

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay in Chef Panyang Resort. It's certainly a place we would come back to and highly recommend.

We also asked around and we found other pet-friendly resorts in Bantayan Island:

  • AJ Beach Resort - Room rates are Php 1,500 to Php 4,000. They also have open cottages (not rooms) if you want a day use and you can put up tents as well. You can book or enquire via their Facebook page here.
  • Yoonek Beach Resort - Room rates are Php 1,500 to Php 5,100ou may reach out to them via their Facebook page here or text/call via these numbers 09310433805 or 09435505657.

Other results that I found in my Agoda search are Kandugyap House by the Sea, Amihan Beach Cabanas, Victory Seaside Homes, among a few others. You can check all the pet-friendly options that you can book via Agoda here

What They Don't Really Tell You About Living Abroad

Thursday, March 10, 2022

Growing up in a third world country, I know a lot of us has the mindset that abroad is a better place to be in. There is no doubt about that, especially when moving into richer countries like the US, Canada, etc.

Those that we know who have moved to other countries also does not fail to paint a pretty picture of their life abroad. We'll be amazed in their stories of having so much more money, snow, picturesque places, among others.

Even though I am not permanently living abroad, I have met so many people even way back in the past who would paint those pretty pictures in my mind. I even got baited into taking a course that I did not want because I wanted that life so bad.

It was a good thing that I got to travel and I saw for myself so much more truth behind those pretty scenes. Here are some of them:

The pay is high, but so is the cost of living.

I cannot count how many times I have heard "Aw maayo na sila kay dollar earners" (Good for them they earn dollars) from others when they talk about my family. It is true that they earn more than an average worker in the Philippines do but the quality of life they enjoy is also paid for in Canadian dollars.

Therefore, when someone is working and living abroad, it obviously does not mean that they are already rich.

The transition of seasons is challenging, expensive and even depressing.

When I still have not had the chance to travel abroad, I thought that the change of seasons was all sparkles and butterflies. However, having the chance to experience transitions of seasons in my vacations in Canada has made me realise that they're not really the easiest.

Each season sets different kinds of challenges most are in clothing, transportation and an overall mood. We're not really told as much how high maintenance in terms of money and time raking leaves and plowing snow are - we just see really cute IG posts.

There is also such thing as seasonal depression that a lot of people experience when living abroad.

Branded items does not always equate wealth.

In the past I had this belief that those who have a lot of branded items are rich - thus, those who live abroad are rich. Hell, I was wrong.

I was surprised of how low the prices can get especially when they go on sale or in outlet malls. The MK and Coach bags that are always flaunted around are not always as expensive as the owners make it seem to be. I am not saying there is anything wrong with this. My point is that there is so much more to "wealth calculations" than the branded items that we don't even know if they've been paid for or on credit.

People have to work hard for their money.

With exemption of course, of those who don't. If someone does not understand how expensive the quality of life is abroad, it is always easy for that person to splurge and live life in luxury in a third world country.

Very few people realise that those who live abroad actually have to work so hard for the money that is being sent out or the money that they are use to live their chosen lifestyle. This applies to all - professionals and blue-collared workers.

So, don't forget to ask what kind of work that person living abroad does and what challenges he/faces in the daily and realise for yourself how it's not that easy to work abroad.

I hope this shed a light for a lot of us who have misconceptions of what it's like for those living abroad and hopefully we will treat them better. And if you do receive something from them, appreciate in the best way you can.

GoTransit in Ontario for First Timers

Glifesnaps go transit toronto ontario guide

GoTransit is one of the most reliable and easy ways to travel in some cities in Ontario, Canada. While public transportation still has a long way to go in the country, GoTransit definitely has made it easier for tourists like me to travel across towns.

According to their website, "GO's distinctive green and white trains and buses serve a population of more than seven million across more than 11,000 square km stretching from Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo in the west to Newcastle and Peterborough in the east, and from Orangeville and Beaverton in the north to Niagara Falls in the south."

If this is your first time taking any type of GoTransit in these cities, I hope you'll find these tips helpful:

Knowing where and when to go.

Before everything else, it is important to know two things: where your nearest station/stop is and what time the Go's train or bus stops by. The best way to know this is to check the GoTransit website. In their homepage, you will find this section:

In the FROM and TO fields, you can input station names or street address. If you are inputting a street address, the system will automatically give you the nearest stop/station. In this example below, I've added in a street address as a destination and the screenshot right below it is what the system said is the nearest stop.

You can also view the details of the trip like the number of stops and the cost of the ticket when you click on Details/E-tickets option on the schedule that you like.

Purchasing your tickets online.

Once you've chosen a schedule, if you wish to purchase your fare online, click on the buy E-tickets option that pops out when you click on Details/E-tickets.

You will be then led to a page where you can continue to purchase your ticket. Have a printed copy of this ticket or on your mobile and show it to the driver upon boarding the train or bus.

Using the Presto Card

Glifesnaps go transit toronto ontario guide

If you're going to be taking GoTransit multiple times and/or you'll be travelling in Downtown Toronto or nearby cities where Presto cards are used as payment for public transport, you might want to just get yourself one and save yourself the trouble and some money. You can purchase Presto cards in bus or train stations or in some Shoppers Drug Mart stores. The complete list of where you can purchase a Presto card is here. Fare using Presto card is relatively cheaper.

You can load your card via their website but it will take approximately 24 hours for the reload to process. If you want an instant reload, you have to reload using their app or these machines that you can find at stations:

Glifesnaps go transit toronto ontario guide

Heading to your stop or station

After preparing your fare or Presto card, it is time to head to your station or stop. It is important to get there around five to ten minutes before your schedule just in case the bus or train comes early or you have a difficult time trying to locate your stop. This is more challenging during the colder months but that's really the give with public transportation.

A Go station will have its own main building where you can check your schedule and which platform your bus or train will stop.

Meanwhile, a Go bus stop will have this logo on the stop sign:

Glifesnaps go transit toronto ontario guide

Taking the transit

If it is your first time taking a specific route for Go Transit, I suggest it is best to keep track of the stops and know what is the stop before yours. If you are taking the bus, you can see a monitor where the series of stops will be shown and tracked.

Glifesnaps go transit toronto ontario guide

For both buses and trains, the stop will have announcements so you must pay attention. I wouldn't recommend sleeping at this point because it will be very difficult for you to get back if you miss your stop.

For buses, after bus has left the stop before yours, you have to request the next stop if no one else has not already. The stop buttons are sometimes in red (as shown in the photo below) right above you or in the yellow handles. On other buses, this can be a yellow strip that is right on the window of your seat.

Glifesnaps go transit toronto ontario guide

Tap on, tap off

Unless otherwise announced in the bus or train, always make sure to tap on your card before boarding. I am so sorry I wan't able to take a photo but you can check what the tapping machines look like here:
  • On train stations - these are usually found near the entrance or right before the platforms
  • On buses - these are usually at the left or the right of the bus when you enter

If you don't tap on or tap off your card, the payment that will be charged to your card will not be correct so make sure you tap.

Taking Go buses and trains are very easy but it is important to know these few basics just to make sure you will have a smooth ride.

Happy travels!

How to Plan an Effective Solo Travel

Sunday, March 6, 2022

As I have said in the past, solo travel is probably one of the best experiences someone can have in a lifetime. In my case, even just a few solo travels have taught me so much about myself and my limitations that I don't think I can ever learn in another way.

As exciting as it sounds, planning a solo trip is also a little tricky since there is so much more things to consider and all the big decisions are up to you.

Here's a quick guide on how to plan an effective solo travel:

Have a realistic budget.

The most important part of your trip is to check how much you actually can spend on that particular trip. If a specific destination is way out of your budget, consider postponing it at a much later date or consider another destination.

Make sure you account the emergency expenses like travel health insurance (especially if it's a longer trip or a trip to a more risky destination), extra cash if you get lost in the destination country or basically anything that can go wrong with a trip that you'll need some extra money on. If you are not planning to convert all of your budget in the local currency, make sure your debit card works internationally for withdrawals.

Research the safety and security of the places you will go to.

I know spontaneity is a beautiful thing, but it is honestly not the safest. If you are planning on going on a solo trip or even if you have company, it is always best to put your life and safety first. I suggest you read on Reddit or Trip Advisor about other people's experiences in a specific destination or hotel and see if the cons that they found were things that you can or cannot tolerate.

If you are booking a hotel, you have to consider the balance of cost and how safe the surroundings are because what I realised was that some accommodations are a lot cheaper but they're really not that safe.

It also comes in handy if you have emergency numbers in the destination country saved on your mobile phone or having a physical copy tucked in.

Join group tours.

There will be places that you'll need private transportation for because they're not easily accessible by public transport. This is one of the cases where solo travel can get very expensive. If you want to save money but still want to get to those types of places, you might want to consider joining a group tour.

Websites like KKDay, Klook and Traveloka have really great and reliable join-in tour packages. If your destination is not in those sites, you can contact certified travel agencies in your destination country if there are tour groups that you can join in.

Don't worry - even if you're joining a group tour, socialisation is totally optional.

Have a detailed itinerary.

This is very optional but for me, having a detailed itinerary has helped a lot in making my trips go smoother. You would not want to arrive in a foreign land clueless and just leaving it all to chance because that is just not realistic.

Make sure you have at least an idea of how to get to places, when you should be in those places and how much things cost. Save yourself the stress so you can have a better trip.

Keep in touch.

Never go on a solo trip without letting a single soul know where you are going and when you are coming back - take the Aron Rolston's experience as a lesson (if you don't know who he is, check out the movie 127 hours).

It is important for at least one other person to know your whereabout and you can even share your itinerary with them just in case. This is a solo trip, but you still want to prioritise safety above all.

Things You Should Know Before Getting Your First Dog

 Glifesnaps pet dog

Having a furry companion like a pet dog is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done in my life. However, like among other responsibilities, it's not the easiest thing to do if it has to be done right.

What most people realise is that having a pet is not just having something cute to post on your social media or just another item on a bucket list. It takes so much of a person's time and effort to be able to raise and live with a pet.

I still have a long way to go when it comes to being a pro furparent, but here are some things I thought you should know if you're thinking of getting a dog for the first time.

It is an extra expense.

Dogs have needs you need to provide such as vet visits, vaccines, food, toys, hygiene, etc. When my dog was a puppy (up until 8 months old), I needed to take him to the vet 1-2 times a month costing me about Php 1,000 per visit. If you are not prepared to spend for another living thing in your life, then you might think twice about getting a dog.

You will have sleepless nights.

When you first take your dog home, he or she may not be able to adjust immediately. During the first night, my dog cried all night and I couldn't go to sleep but he wouldn't come near me either. So I had to patiently wait all night and days after before he warmed up to me. I must admit that I wanted to give up, but I'm just happy I didn't. If you will experience this, just know that this will all be over. Just be there because your dog will eventually build up the trust. How long it takes will differ so be prepared. It's best if you take your dog home maybe a day before a weekend.

Training is not easy.

If you want your pet to pee/poo on specific areas you want them to do their business on, you will need to train them. If you don't want them to scratch or bite all their life, then you have to keep an eye on them and discipline them when their biting/scratching phase comes. All these and more that is needed for a decently behaved dog sometimes takes months to complete and can be incredibly frustrating. Please don't get a dog when you're just going to leash them because you cannot discipline them.

There will be lifestyle changes you need to make.

Having a pet will mean that you cannot have things lying around on the floor or else they'll end up chewing on them. You will also have to adjust what time you come home because you will have to follow their feeding schedule or take them out for a walk if it's needed. You also have to set aside time on your day to play and to train them. There will be so much lifestyle changes and you should be ready to adjust accordingly.

Be ready for an endless amount of unconditional love.

Your dog will take a huge amount of work but nothing can ever prepare you for the abundance of love that you will receive each day. There will be no more days and nights when you feel alone because you will always have someone with you to talk to and cuddle with. It will be one of the best feelings knowing that you will have someone who will never be disappointed in you and love you no matter what. Be prepared for that.

Easy to Read Books for Almost Everyone

Tuesday, March 1, 2022

While it's true that reading is not a hobby for everyone that should not stop anyone from at least trying to read at least a few books in their lifetime.

If your new year's resolution or life resolution is to start the habit of reading but you are too intimidated with the "big books" or you do not know where to start, this list might help you out somehow.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

The first book in the series, this follows the journey of four siblings namely Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy in their first adventure to Narnia. During this time, Narnia is a frozen land in eternal winter under the control of the White Witch. With the return of Aslan, the Great Lion, the siblings found themselves in an adventure to save the land.

This is a children's book but this (for me) could be one of the most valuable books you will ever read in your life. This is one of the books that I would definitely introduce to my future children. Also, given that this is written for children, this book is so easy to read that almost anyone could enjoy it. There's too much good in this book and it is written so exquisitely that I know will really spark anyone's imaginations.

Please do not take it as an insult if you are a started reader and you get recommended a children's book - it is really a very realistic way to start up the hobby and build it up from there.

A Walk to Remember

A Walk to Remember is a story of Landon and Jamie who are two very different people who lived very different lives, but chance brought them together and one of the most beautiful fictional stories were lived. This shows how moving and powerful true love is - that even in the most trying of times and all hope is lost, it finds its way to grow.

I know almost everyone by now has seen the movie (which is also equally beautiful, btw) but if you haven't read the book, I highly suggest this one. Sparks has a writing style that is very easy to read and still gives you a great experience. You'll get hooked in the story that you might find it difficult to put down which I think is a great factor if you're still starting to read as a hobby.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Breakfast at Tiffany's is a story of Holly Golightly, an escort to rich men in New York and is also seeking a rich old man to marry. Her path crossed with a man who just moved in to her building, a man that is the exact opposite of what Holly is looking for. They started getting attracted to each other but they constantly went one step forward two steps back because they're fighting the chance to be together.

I know the classic books have quite an intimidating reputation, but this is one of the few that is a breeze to get through and it's actually not very lengthy. The characterisation is really great with this one. Holly is oddly charming for being the kind of person that she is and you will find yourself liking her as the story progresses and actually rooting for her to find the happiness she deserves.

This book is a great expression that sometimes we have these grand plans for ourselves but the universe has something more in store for us.
